LIVER TONIC
Liver Tonic is a formula that contributes to normal liver function thanks to its synergy of cleansing nutrients.
Liver Tonic is a dietary supplement formulated with ingredients that can be useful in the liver cleansing process. Among the most important components is milk thistle, a plant with hepatoprotective and immunomodulatory properties.
Another important component is acetyl L-cysteine, which promotes liver detoxification processes.
Milk thistle: Detoxification, digestion, and liver support
Milk thistle is best known for its use as a liver tonic. The phytonutrients contained in milk thistle protect the liver from damage caused by drugs, alcohol, and environmental toxins, making it very useful for many of our patients today. Milk thistle protects the liver by promoting the health and integrity of liver cells (hepatocytes) and offers protection against tissue scarring, damage caused by free radicals, and the effects of circulating toxins. In fact, milk thistle is thought to function as a cellular shield, preventing toxins from binding to receptors on the membrane of liver cells. Milk thistle not only supports the liver, but also the gallbladder, bile ducts, and bile flow, promoting detoxification, digestion, and elimination. Impressively, milk thistle increases the normal rate of liver cell repair, improving its ability to regenerate. This is why milk thistle is often used in the treatment and prevention of fatty liver disease, chronic hepatitis C, and bile duct disorders. In fact, milk thistle is the most commonly used herb in American gastrointestinal clinics to support the liver. In Germany, it is commonly used as a treatment for cirrhosis and toxic liver damage.
N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC): Liver detoxification.
The liver is considered to be the leader of the body's intrinsic detoxification pathways. Here is an example: One of its main roles is to remove waste and toxins from the body. To do this, the liver coordinates a complex system of detoxification enzymes involving a series of cellular processes. NAC is highly active in phase II detoxification pathways, making it an important player in liver detoxification.
The antioxidant properties of NAC and glutathione support overall liver function and, ultimately, detoxification. Metabolically active organs such as the liver generate many oxidative byproducts, such as free radicals. In fact, the liver is the body's primary detoxification organ, so it is busy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As a source of sulfhydryl groups, NAC is considered a fast-acting antioxidant that helps neutralize oxidants in the liver and other “busy” organs. NAC and the compounds that NAC directly helps to replenish are scavengers of these oxidants, promoting the resistance and repair of liver cells and tissues.
